About the event
Turn a favorite old sweater into a cozy, one-of-a-kind pair of mittens! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to prepare a sweater, cut out mitten pieces, and sew them together with a warm fleece lining. You’ll leave with a handmade pair and a new way to give old sweaters a second life.
Wool sweaters that are 80–100% wool are the most popular choice because they felt into thick, warm fabric. Cashmere makes especially soft, cozy mittens, though it usually doesn’t felt as densely as wool, so the mittens may be a little thinner. Both work beautifully. Sweaters with fun prints can also make great mittens, even if they don’t shrink or felt much when washed.
